Southwest Airlines seeks direct flights from Reagan National to Las Vegas

Southwest Airlines Applies for Nonstop Flights from Reagan National to Las Vegas

Southwest Airlines is making moves to expand its reach with a new application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for nonstop flights from Reagan National Airport to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. This comes after the recent passage of the FAA Reauthorization Act, which authorized five new round-trip flights from Reagan National.

If approved, Southwest Airlines plans to operate these nonstop flights seven days a week using Boeing 737 aircraft. Currently, American Airlines offers daily nonstops from Reagan National to Las Vegas once a day, while United Airlines operates twice-daily nonstops from Dulles International Airport to Las Vegas.

Southwest Airlines is confident that their addition to the D.C.-to-Las Vegas market will lead to lower fares for travelers. Other airlines are also looking to capitalize on the new routes, with Alaska Airlines applying for nonstop services between Reagan National and San Diego, and American Airlines considering nonstops between Reagan National and San Antonio.

The Transportation Department is expected to approve up to five new nonstop routes from Reagan National by July, opening up more options for travelers looking to fly between D.C. and popular destinations like Las Vegas. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
