Businesses Along Las Vegas Strip Petition to Stop F1 Race
The Las Vegas Grand Prix (F1) is set to return to the Las Vegas Strip this November, but not everyone is excited about it. Businesses along the circuit are pushing back against the event, citing significant revenue losses and disruptions caused by the construction and preparations for the race.
A petition titled “Stop the Las Vegas Grand Prix (F1)” has gained traction, with businesses expressing concerns about the negative impacts on their operations. The petition has already exceeded its signature goal, highlighting the growing opposition to the event.
Business owners like Magdy Amer and Randy Markin have shared their struggles, with Amer forced to close multiple businesses due to limited access caused by the construction. Markin, who owns Battista’s Hole in the Wall, reported a 20% loss in business during the initial construction phase.
In total, businesses in the area have reported a staggering $30 million in revenue loss due to the disruptions caused by the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The petition calls on Clark County Commissioners to reconsider approving the special use/events permit submitted by LVGP until a more fair and undisruptive plan can be implemented.
Despite the concerns raised by businesses, LVGP officials have stated that the upcoming construction work will be less impactful than last year. However, the lack of response from LVGP representatives has only fueled the opposition, with petition organizers vowing to continue their efforts until their voices are heard.
Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, who represents portions of the circuit, has expressed support for reimbursing businesses impacted by the construction. However, the responsibility for providing compensation remains unclear.
As the debate continues, businesses are determined to fight for their rights and ensure that their concerns are addressed before the Las Vegas Grand Prix takes place.
