O.J. Simpson’s Last Days: Attorney Shares Details of Final Conversations

O.J. Simpson, the former football hero, movie actor, and celebrity murder defendant, passed away on April 10 at the age of 76 after battling prostate cancer. His longtime lawyer, Malcom LaVergne, shared details of Simpson’s final days, revealing that his last robust discussion with Simpson was just before Easter at the country club home Simpson leased in Las Vegas.

LaVergne described Simpson as awake, alert, and chilling on the couch, watching TV and enjoying a beer during their last conversation. Simpson, known for his love of golf, chose to watch a golf tournament over a tennis match during their last visit. LaVergne also mentioned that Simpson’s adult children were with him during his final moments, asking for privacy and grace during this time of transition.

The attorney, who is handling Simpson’s estate, stated that Simpson wanted to be cremated and that there were no immediate plans for a public memorial. Simpson’s last will and testament named his four children as the beneficiaries of his estate, with details of a family trust yet to be filed.

Simpson, famously acquitted of criminal charges in the 1994 murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, had been living a golf-and-country club lifestyle since his release from prison in 2017. However, he passed away without paying the majority of the $33.5 million judgment awarded to the Goldman family in the civil liability case.

Attorney David Cook, representing the Goldman family, stated that the judgment owed today, including unpaid interest, is more than $114 million. LaVergne initially claimed that the Goldmans would not receive any of Simpson’s assets but later backtracked, acknowledging that the amount owed could be more than $200 million. He invited the Goldman and Brown families to review his findings but noted that they would need to use their own resources to pursue any additional assets.
