HCA Healthcare Announces 2023 Unit of Distinction Award Winners
HCA Healthcare has announced the winners of the 2023 Unit of Distinction (UOD) Awards, an annual program that recognizes and rewards exemplary nursing units across their sites of care. The Unit of Distinction designation is achieved through measurable, exemplary performance in the areas of advocacy and leadership, consistency in nursing practice and operations, and leveraging scale to improve patient care.
Sammie Mosier, DHA, MA, BSN, NE-BC, senior vice president and chief nurse executive of HCA Healthcare, expressed excitement about celebrating the outstanding nursing units through the Unit of Distinction Awards. Mosier congratulated all of this year’s winners for raising the standard of nursing excellence every day.
Launched in 2015, the Unit of Distinction Awards are an essential component of HCA Healthcare’s strategic nursing plan. With over 2,400 sites of care and more than 99,000 nurses, HCA Healthcare provides abundant opportunities for nurses to work across a wide spectrum of clinical and non-clinical settings. The organization supports and invests in nursing with leading-edge technologies and increased access to clinical education and professional development opportunities to make HCA Healthcare a premier career destination for nurses.
In a ceremony broadcast from HCA Healthcare’s headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, a total of 199 nursing units were recognized as top-performing units. These units are categorized in specialized areas of care such as Behavioral Health, Critical Care, Emergency Services, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Medical Surgical, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics, Perinatal Services, Progressive Care Unit, and Surgical Services.
The top five percent of all HCA Healthcare units were designated as Units of Distinction, while the next six to ten percent earned honorable mention designations. The organization extended gratitude to the nursing colleagues in each unit recognized for their dedication to delivering patient-centered care.
Among the top-ranking units were Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, for Behavioral Health; Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas, for Critical Care; HCA Florida Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida, for Emergency Services; TriStar Mt. Juliet ER in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, for Free Standing Emergency Room; Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, for Inpatient Rehabilitation; Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California, for Medical Surgical; TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center in Hendersonville, Tennessee, for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver, Colorado, for Pediatric Intensive Care Unit; TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, for Pediatrics; HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast in Pasadena, Texas, for Perinatal Services; and Heart Hospital of Austin in Austin, Texas, for Surgical Services.
