Measles Case Reported at Las Vegas Strip Locations in Health District

Confirmed Case of Measles Reported in Las Vegas Strip Hotel Visitor

The Southern Nevada Health District has issued a warning after confirming a case of measles in a visitor who stayed at a Las Vegas Strip hotel. The health district stated that it is unclear whether the individual was vaccinated or their current condition.

The tourist was known to have visited several locations in the Strip, Las Vegas, and Henderson between April 1 and April 6. Some of the places the visitor was seen include the Grand Wok Noodle Bar, International Smoke Restaurant, MGM Grand Fitness Center, Ka Cirque du Soleil show, MGM food court, and Terminal 1 of the Harry Reid International Airport.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that can live in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left. Symptoms typically include fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, with a rash appearing one to four days later. The virus can spread before and after the rash appears, but the measles vaccine is highly effective in preventing illness.

The SNHD is urging anyone who may have been exposed to the infected visitor to contact their healthcare provider if they develop symptoms within 21 days of visiting the listed locations. It is recommended that symptomatic individuals call their doctor’s office before going to a healthcare facility to prevent the spread of the virus.

Residents are encouraged to make an appointment at a health district clinic to receive vaccines, including the measles vaccine. More information can be found at www.snhd.info/immunizations. Stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect yourself and others from measles.
