Smith Center Announces Winners of 2024 Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts recently announced the winners of its 2024 Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards, showcasing the incredible talent of high school students across the state.

Among the standout performers were Luke Martin from Bishop Gorman High School, who won the Outstanding Lead Actor award, and Marie Munoz, also from Bishop Gorman High School, who took home the Outstanding Lead Actress award. Other notable winners included Brianna Gracia from Coronado High School and Anthony Williams from Faith Lutheran Conservatory of the Fine Arts, who received the Spotlight Award.

The awards ceremony also recognized the Spirit of Broadway Award winners, chosen by both peers and the creative team, as well as outstanding achievements in categories such as direction, lighting design, supporting performers, and ensemble.

One of the most prestigious awards of the evening went to Doral Academy Red Rock High School, which was named Outstanding Overall Musical. Additionally, Foothill High School was recognized for having the Outstanding Student Orchestra, and Las Vegas Academy received accolades for Outstanding Set Design and Construction.

The highlight of the evening was when Martin and Munoz were announced as the winners of the Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress awards. Both students will now have the opportunity to represent Nevada at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Jimmy Awards, in New York City.

The event in New York will include private coaching, master classes, and rehearsals with industry professionals, as well as performances on Broadway. This incredible opportunity will allow Martin and Munoz to showcase their talents on a national stage and compete for the prestigious Jimmy Award for Best Performance.

Overall, the Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards highlighted the immense talent and dedication of young performers in the state, and the future looks bright for these rising stars in the world of musical theater.
