Las Vegas Teacher Accused of Child Abuse: Allegedly “Body-Slammed” Toddler into Cot
LAS VEGAS TEACHER ARRESTED FOR CHILD ABUSE AFTER ALLEGEDLY “BODY-SLAMMING” TODDLER
A shocking case of child abuse has rocked the Shenker Academy in Las Vegas, as a teacher, Eryka Westover, 33, has been arrested on charges of felony child abuse or neglect. The arrest came after a mother reported that her daughter had been “body-slammed” by Westover during naptime, with video evidence provided by class assistants.
The incident, which occurred on February 5, showed Westover becoming frustrated with the child and allegedly body-slamming her into a cot. The video, although incomplete due to the camera falling, captured Westover saying, “Yes, I just body slammed you, you’re fine. Go to bed.” This was just one of the disturbing incidents reported by the assistants, who also claimed that Westover had been slapping, hitting, and pinching children.
The mother of the abused child noticed changes in her daughter’s behavior after she was moved to Westover’s class, including difficulty dropping her off at school and saying things like “Don’t touch me” and “Don’t hit me.” Other parents also reported similar incidents, with children coming home saying they were “bad kids” and that Westover scratched and pinched at them.
Despite multiple complaints to the school director, the situation was not taken seriously, with the director defending Westover and dismissing the concerns raised by parents. This led to a letter being written to the school board, calling for the immediate suspension and investigation of the head of the school, as well as the termination of Westover.
The disturbing allegations against Westover have raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of children at the Shenker Academy. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in ensuring the protection of children in educational settings. Westover has since been arrested and taken to the Clark County Detention Center, pending further investigation into the allegations of child abuse.
