Ellis Island Hotel-Casino Sues Las Vegas Grand Prix Over Traffic Issues
The ongoing feud between a Las Vegas Strip-adjacent hotel-casino and the organizers of the Las Vegas Grand Prix has escalated into a lawsuit over traffic issues caused by the race construction and event.
Ellis Island, located near Koval Lane and Flamingo Road on the circuit, has taken legal action against the race organizers and Clark County, alleging that they were not adequately informed of the impact the race construction and event would have on their business. The construction of the Flamingo Bridge in the area blocked one of the access points to Ellis Island, significantly affecting customer and vendor ingress and egress.
The lawsuit claims that the construction schedule for the race was constantly changing without advance notice, causing disruptions to business operations and dealings. Ellis Island also alleges that they were misled by the project manager, who assured them that paving work would not impact their access to the property.
Furthermore, the lawsuit accuses Clark County of granting the race a “conditional use” permit to bypass certain requirements, leading to interference with the property rights of Ellis Island. The hotel-casino asserts that their business expectations were substantially disrupted by the actions of the Las Vegas Grand Prix and Clark County.
While officials from the Las Vegas Grand Prix declined to comment on the pending litigation, Clark County has not responded to requests for comment. FOX5 has filed a public records request for the race’s 2024 traffic plan, which has been withheld by Clark County as a “working draft” requiring further review.
