As summer approaches, Americans are eagerly planning their travel adventures, with a whopping 95 percent of travelers indicating they plan to travel as much or more than they did last year, according to a recent Tripadvisor survey. And the top destination on everyone’s radar? Las Vegas.

The desert oasis of Las Vegas has secured the top spot as the most popular domestic destination for U.S. travelers this summer, as revealed in Tripadvisor’s 2024 Summer Travel Index. Known for its entertainment, sporting events, and adventurous activities, Las Vegas is the ultimate summer playground for travelers seeking excitement.

Some of the biggest names in entertainment will be gracing the stages of Las Vegas this summer, with residencies from Adele, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Mariah Carey, and Dead & Company. Additionally, Allegiant Stadium will host key matches of the Copa America 2024 soccer tournament, while the NFL season for the Las Vegas Raiders kicks off in late summer.

For adventure seekers, Las Vegas offers a plethora of options including Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and Red Rocks Canyon, all within an hour’s drive from the city center. And for those looking for warm-weather destinations, other popular spots on Americans’ summer travel list include Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Honolulu, Key West, Ocean City, and San Diego.

In a separate study by Airbnb, Las Vegas also emerged as the top trending summer destination for 2024. With an array of entertainment options, sporting events, and outdoor adventures, Las Vegas is set to be the ultimate summer hotspot for travelers looking to make the most of their vacation time.

To compile the list of top destinations, Tripadvisor analyzed searches between February 1 and April 15 for travel between June and August. Among the fastest-growing domestic destinations are Yosemite National Park, College Station, Santa Rosa Beach, Pocono Manor, and Waimea.
