“Bedbugs Spotted at Las Vegas Strip Hotels Ahead of Super Bowl 58”

As millions of visitors flocked to Las Vegas for Super Bowl 58, at least four guests staying at separate hotels along the iconic Las Vegas Strip reported sightings of bedbugs in their rooms between September 2023 and January 2024, according to local outlet KLAS.

The Southern Nevada Health District confirmed that bedbugs were found at the Encore, Venetian, Excalibur Hotel & Casino, and Mirage. A guest’s complaint on December 5, 2023, led to the use of a bedbug-sniffing dog at the Encore, where a live bedbug was discovered, prompting the hotel to close the room for thorough cleaning.

Jennifer Sizemore, communications officer for the Southern Nevada Health District, reassured the public that each of the four hotels had only one room with a verified bedbug complaint, and that the properties responded appropriately to the issue. She emphasized that these were isolated incidents and not full-blown infestations.

The Nevada Resort Association, a gaming and resort advocacy group, issued a statement emphasizing that the health and safety of guests is their top priority. They highlighted the rarity of such occurrences, considering the millions of room nights generated over the nearly five-month period.

Despite the incidents, Las Vegas hotels maintain ongoing pest control measures to ensure a pest-free environment for guests. The Southern Nevada Health District provided tips on how to identify and prevent bedbugs, including washing clothes in hot water, storing luggage in sealed plastic bags, and reducing clutter in rooms.

As visitors continue to flock to Las Vegas for various events and attractions, it is essential for hotels to address and prevent issues like bedbugs to maintain a positive guest experience. The health and safety of guests remain a top priority for the hospitality industry in Las Vegas.
