Man taken into custody following shooting near Las Vegas valley gym

Man arrested after two illegal shooting incidents and standoff with officers in Las Vegas

Las Vegas man Joshua Damian found himself in a whirlwind of trouble last week after two illegal shooting incidents and a standoff with police near the 215 and Flamingo Road. The chaotic events left gym-goers in the area at a standstill as police worked to bring the situation under control.

The ordeal began on Wednesday, May 1, when Las Vegas Metro police responded to reports of an illegal shooting at a home near Rainbow Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a white Honda speeding away from the scene, as well as a black Infinity with Utah plates circling the neighborhood.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers were informed that Joshua Damian, the boyfriend of a woman at the home, had fired multiple shots into the air during an argument. The woman revealed that Damian had left with a friend following the incident.

As the situation unfolded, a relative of Damian’s tipped off police that he was headed to a gym in the area. Shortly after, a shooting was reported at the gym, with two individuals in a white sedan firing rounds into the air. The driver, identified as Aaron Tainatongo, was taken into custody, but Damian refused to surrender, leading to a tense standoff with police.

During the standoff, Damian exhibited erratic behavior, at one point exiting the vehicle wearing only his underwear and defying police orders. Despite attempts by officers to apprehend him, Damian managed to re-enter the vehicle and resist arrest before eventually surrendering.

According to Damian’s girlfriend, his behavior had become increasingly erratic in the weeks leading up to the incidents. She described a troubling pattern of behavior, including the use of marijuana and outbursts of anger.

Following the arrest, police recovered a cache of weapons from the scene, including a Glock handgun, an AR pistol, and various ammunition. Damian now faces a litany of charges, including 38 counts of discharging a firearm where a person might be endangered and 14 counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

The dramatic events serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal firearms and the importance of swift police intervention in such situations. As the community processes the aftermath of the incidents, residents are left to reflect on the fragility of safety and the need for vigilance in the face of potential threats.
