Deconstruction of Tropicana Las Vegas Begins, Asbestos Still Present Inside

Demolition of Tropicana Las Vegas Delayed Due to Asbestos Removal

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The former Tropicana Las Vegas property is undergoing deconstruction to make way for a new baseball stadium, but the process has hit a roadblock due to the presence of dangerous asbestos material.

The property, which closed in early April, is being demolished to clear the way for a new development. However, a recent inspection revealed the presence of asbestos inside the building, a common insulation material used in the 1950s that is now known to cause health issues if inhaled.

The Bally’s Corporation, the operator of the former hotel, is working to remove the asbestos before proceeding with the demolition. A blasting permit is also required for the implosion of the guestroom towers, but has not yet been approved by Clark County.

The delay in obtaining the blasting permit is causing concern among residents and officials, as the safety of those living and vacationing around the property is a top priority. The county commissioner has stated that the permit will not be approved until the safety of the surrounding area is ensured.

A licensed asbestos abatement contractor is currently working on removing the dangerous material, but it is unclear how long this process will take. The corporation is aiming to complete the demolition by October, but the timeline may be affected by the ongoing asbestos removal and permit approval process.

The future of the former Tropicana Las Vegas property remains uncertain as the deconstruction process faces challenges, but efforts are being made to ensure the safety of the community before moving forward with the development plans.
