Concerns Arise Over Empty Building in Close Proximity to Downtown Las Vegas

Residents in Downtown Las Vegas Fed Up with Vacant Building: Calling for Action

The residents of a downtown Las Vegas neighborhood are speaking out about a vacant building that has become a source of frustration and danger in their community. The building on G Street and Morgan Avenue has been a magnet for squatters and has even been the site of a tragic discovery of a deceased individual in the past.

Ahmad Ade, a longtime resident in the area, describes the building as a burned-out, abandoned eyesore that has been a blight on the neighborhood for years. Despite numerous complaints and concerns raised by residents, the City of Las Vegas has not taken action to address the building’s deteriorating condition.

After Channel 13 reached out to the City for comment, code enforcement officials arrived at the building to inspect it. While there have been multiple complaints dating back to 2009, the City has not deemed the building as dangerous enough to warrant demolition.

According to Ade, the City’s criteria for demolishing a building is based on whether all four walls are standing, rather than the actual safety and aesthetic concerns raised by residents. The City has provided a link to the 2022 Dangerous Buildings Code for reference, and encourages residents to report any code violations or issues in their neighborhood to Code Enforcement.

For residents like Ade, the fight to address the vacant building continues as they seek to reclaim their neighborhood from the dangers and eyesores that have plagued it for too long.
