New Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Substation Planned for East Las Vegas
The long-awaited plan for a new Las Vegas Metropolitan police substation in east Las Vegas is finally coming to fruition, bringing hope for increased safety and security in the area. Residents in the east Las Vegas neighborhood have been plagued by higher rates of violent crime compared to other parts of the valley, prompting the need for a new police presence.
The new substation, to be named East Area Command, will bridge the gap between the Northeast Area Command and the Southeast Area Command. The site, located next to a Clark County Fire Station on Hollywood Boulevard near Sahara Avenue, will encompass about four acres of land and include essential facilities such as secured and unsecured parking, a locked shed, a backup diesel fuel generator, and 24-hour surveillance.
Despite plans being in place for years and funding secured, the one hurdle was the land itself, which is controlled by the Bureau of Land Management. However, with the land transfer to Clark County expected to be finalized by the end of June, a groundbreaking for the new substation could happen by the end of the year.
Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom emphasized the importance of this new substation, stating that it is the top priority for the Sheriff. Residents in the area are welcoming the news, expressing hope for a safer environment for themselves and their families.
With the addition of the East Area Command, law enforcement will be better equipped to address various crimes in the area, including street racing, illegal parties, and most importantly, violent crime. The new substation is seen as a crucial step towards improving public safety in east Las Vegas and providing residents with a sense of security in their community.
