Celebrating the Legacy of B-Boy Mr. Freeze: 40 Years of Hip-Hop History Exhibition and Closing Reception
Legendary b-boy Mr. Freeze, a founding member of the Rock Steady Crew, is being honored in a special exhibition at the Arts Factory in Las Vegas. The exhibit, titled 40 Years of Hip-hop History, showcases Freeze’s personal collection of b-boy photos taken throughout his illustrious career.
The exhibition, curated by local photographer Shannon Dorn, highlights Freeze’s impact on breaking culture and his role in popularizing hip-hop in the 1980s. Freeze’s iconic moves have been immortalized in photos taken by various photographers over the years, capturing his dynamic performances and influence on the dance scene.
The idea for the exhibition came about when Philippe Julles Ardouin, a photographer who captured Freeze in action, reached out to the b-boy on Facebook. Ardouin’s photos, along with others from Freeze’s collection, offer a glimpse into the dancer’s formative years and his contributions to the hip-hop community.
To celebrate Freeze’s legacy, the exhibition will culminate in a closing reception on April 30, featuring a DJ, a black light room filled with retro graffiti, and spray paint artwork from renowned artist Futura 2000. The event promises to be a vibrant tribute to Freeze’s enduring impact on hip-hop culture.
