NFL Rule Changes: Ban on “Hip-Drop Tackle” and Player Pushback
The NFL has implemented a new rule this offseason to ban the “hip-drop tackle,” a defensive maneuver that has been deemed dangerous and increases the risk of serious injury for players. The rule change has sparked controversy among defensive players who argue that the tackle is a legitimate part of the game.
Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby recently discussed potential rule changes in the NFL on his podcast, “The Rush with Maxx Crosby.” Crosby expressed his frustration with certain penalties, such as roughing the passer, that he believes are called too frequently and without clear intent.
Despite the pushback from players like Crosby, the NFL continues to evaluate and adjust its rules each offseason. The league’s upcoming event, the NFL Draft, will take place in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024, where the Las Vegas Raiders hold the No. 13 overall pick.
