Contractor in Las Vegas arrested for allegedly taking $250K without completing work

Las Vegas Contractor Arrested for Fraudulent Activity, NSCB Warns of Solar Company Scams

Las Vegas contractor Guadalupe Derek Carbajal from Lifetime Power has been arrested for allegedly scamming unsuspecting elderly homeowners out of $250,000 without performing any work. The Nevada State Contractors Board has announced that Carbajal is facing multiple felony counts and one misdemeanor for his actions.

Randy Escamilla, the Public Information Officer for the NSCB, stated that the crimes committed by Carbajal were so severe that the office of the Nevada Attorney General has been called upon for prosecution. David Behar, Deputy Executive Officer for the NSCB, revealed that their investigation into Carbajal began in 2023 and led to the revocation of Lifetime Power’s license due to numerous violations and fines totaling $313,000.

Carbajal’s arrest comes as the NSCB has seen a rise in consumer complaints against solar companies, prompting the creation of a specialized solar investigations unit. This unit will target complaints involving theft, fraud, abandonment, diversion of funds, and unlicensed contracting within the solar industry.

The NSCB is urging anyone who has been harmed by a residential solar company to file a complaint with the Board or contact them directly. They also advise homeowners interested in solar to always get multiple bids, verify contractor licenses with the NSCB, and review contracts thoroughly before signing.

Carbajal faces up to 65 years in prison if convicted. The NSCB is working diligently to protect consumers and ensure accountability within the solar industry in Nevada.
